Job Status Updating
Previous Topic  Next Topic

Job updating is the process of reporting time, quantity completions and statuses to jobs and operations.  The updating can be performed through Import Job Updates or through a manual entry screen. This section covers the manual  entry process.

Job Updating is accessed through the Manufacturing Orders Job Grid by either selecting File | Updating or the updating icon .

Note that jobs that are listed in the Manufacturing Orders Job Grid are the jobs that show up in Job Updating. This allows you to filter out only the jobs you want to display in the updating area. For example, you may only want to show jobs that are scheduled to run for the week enabling you to reduce the volume of orders you view in the job tree. The job that you have highlighted in Manufacturing Orders Job Grid is the order that will be defaulted in the update module.

In the example below, job EMO-1000-Cavity-BP was highlighted in the Manufacturing Orders Job Grid when the Job Updating was selected.  Therefore job  this job is the default job displayed for updating.  The example below shows all job updating prompts that can be displayed.  You can select the prompts for Job Updating and other updating options through Job Status Options.

You can select a job by either double clicking in the job tree, typing in the order number in the “Order number” prompt or by using the pull down option in the “Order number” prompt.

The type of job (either production or fabrication) affects how a job is updated.

The following explanation of the prompts assume that all prompts have been selected by the Job Status Options and that standard DMS names are used.

  1. Date worked This is the date that the work was performed. For example, if the work was performed yesterday then yesterdays date would be entered.
  2. Shift worked This is the shift that the work was performed in
  3. Order number This is the order number worked on
  4. Operation ident  The Operation Ident is the operation identification of the operation worked on. You can access a drop down list to view the operation identifications attached to the Order Number.
  5. Resource The planned resource will appear as the default entry after the operation ident has been entered.  If a different resource was used you can input the resource and the new resource will used for future scheduling of the operation.
  6. Type of work You can optionally report on what “Type of Work” the work was completed under. For example, if an overtime profile was used it may be important for you to collect this information for costing purposes.
  7. Setup time  This prompt is used to capture the set up time in hours applied to the operation. Setup time is a cumulative field. For example, if 2 hours were reported yesterday and an additional hour was spent today, the value entered for todays transaction should be 1.
  8. Runtime This prompt is used to capture the runtime in hours applied to the operation. Runtime is a cumulative field. For example, if 6 hours were reported yesterday and 4 hours were spent today, the value entered for todays transaction should be 4.
  9. Qty Completed Captures how much quantity has been completed for this transaction.  Qty completed is a cumulative field where each new entry is added to the total completed for the operation.
  10. Scrap Captures how much scrap has been processed for this transaction. Scrap is a cumulative field where each new entry is added to the total scrap for the operation.
  11. Percent complete Is used to give a percent complete for the operation. The transaction will just simply be recorded if “Recalculate planned time” is not checked. However, if “Recalculate planned time” is checked, DMS will take the cumulative actual time to date reported against the operation and the percent complete reported for the current transaction and then recalculate planned time.
  12. Recalculate plan time If percent complete is being used and reported, this option to impose or not impose a recalculation of runtime for when percent complete is reported.
  13. Operation status Available statuses are:
  1. Blank (space) for no status to report.
  2. Queued for work: Typically used as a signal from the shop floor
  3. In Process: If a job is in process and the option to load in process work first is activated as a schedule option, in process work will be scheduled as the top priority.
  4. Completed: No more time will be scheduled for an operation once it has been completed, regardless of time or quantity that may be remaining.
  1. Status reason An optional status reason can be given.
  2. Notes You can optionally post notes to your transactions giving more detail on work performed.
  3. Work Performed By  The work performed by prompt may appear before the order number or may appear at the end depending on the Job Status Options selected.  It is used to record the employee who performed the work.  One more more employees can be entered per transaction depending on the settings of Job Status Options.  The example above shows the Job Status Updating screen when one employee has been selected for entry.
