DMS has three different time fence settings in the Scheduler Module. They are:
The time fence settings are used to lock in selections that the DMS scheduler has made based on the options you have provided. When this lock takes place depends on the number of days that have been selected for each time fence. For example, suppose you have selected 7 days for the OR command time fence. Suppose an operation has the option of selecting Resource 1 OR Resource 2. If the operation is currently scheduled to take place in 9 days from now no lock will take place and even though DMS may have selected Resource 1 in the last schedule run if may select Resource 2 in today’s schedule run based on changing demand. If however the operation now falls within the 7 day time fence (it is scheduled to start in 5 days for example), then the resource selected will be locked and the option of selecting the alternate resource will no longer be available to the schedule. Time fences are typically used to ensure that programming required for machines does not need to be changed based on last minute resource changes or if you want to make your short term schedules as static as possible to allow the shop floor to plan ahead.
