The Due Date helps to drive the importance of the job in the schedule. If all jobs are the same priority then (by default) the jobs with the earlier due dates are deemed a higher priority then jobs with a later due date.  If a schedule end date is past the due date, the job is flagged as being late.  The due date is a required field.
