A dataset in DMS is a collection of independent information that makes up complete data for scheduling purposes. It is important to note that each dataset is independent of all other datasets in DMS. That is, each dataset has its own passwords, resources, jobs, operations, history, etc.
Each DMS dataset has a one to one reference to an SQL database. If you have been given permission by your database administrator to create a database when creating a new DMS dataset, DMS names the database the same name as the dataset, except that blanks and certain characters are removed. This method makes it easy to identify the database associated with a DMS dataset. The following examples give you an idea of the dataset name and the corresponding database name created by DMS:
Dataset Name |
Database Name |
Sample Data |
SampleData |
Test Facility A-B-C |
TestFacilityABC |
My_Data_Experiment |
MyDataExperiment |
If you have not been given permission by your database administrator to create SQL databases, then the administrator must create the SQL database before you can use it. The administrator will give you the name of the database which you must enter into DMS when you create a DMS dataset.
You can practically have any number of DMS datasets. You are only limited by the amount of disk space available.
After the DMS splash screen appears and you click OK, a list of datasets will be displayed. Select the dataset and then the database login screen appears as in:
Note that for all new datasets created, the User Name is dms and the default password is dms. Both are case sensitive.
