Job State
Previous Topic  Next Topic

The job state is used to assign different attributes to a job. The job state is an important field in DMS in that it tells the system how to handle a given job.  You can define your own job states or choose from the standard list. You can also define a color for a job state to further help identify the job.  Job States are setup in the Tables menu using Job States.

The types of states and their corresponding icons displayed in the job tree view are:

  1. Quote. Jobs with a quote state will not be scheduled.  They are typically used to identify jobs that are being quoted on.
  2. Engineering/Planning.  These types of jobs will not be scheduled and can be used to identify jobs that are in the engineering or planning phase.
  3. Hold.  Jobs are hold will not be scheduled.  You can optionally add server types of hold states to help identify why a job is on hold.  For example, you could set up the following hold states:  "Material Delay", "Waiting on Customer", "Waiting on Planning", etc.
  4. Pending.  Pending jobs will not be scheduled unless Pending jobs are released during a schedule run.  Pending jobs enable you to quickly add jobs to the schedule to see what effect they would have on the current schedule.  You may decide to use Pending jobs as those jobs waiting for customer approval.
  5. Schedule.  Jobs that have a state of schedule will be scheduled.  The schedule icon may also appear with green bar for schedule jobs that are in process, and with red bars for schedule jobs that are late.  The late icon takes precedence over the in process icon.
  6. Completed.  Completed jobs not be scheduled and are those jobs that may have just been finished but not moved to history yet.
  7. History.  Jobs that have a state of history will not be scheduled.  History jobs are not displayed by default in Manufacturing Orders.  This enables you to easily reduce the size of the data you are viewing.
  8. Template.  Template jobs are jobs that have a standard routing that you wish to use over and over again.  Template jobs will not be scheduled and must have with a blank part number or a unique part number.  Template jobs do not appear in Manufacturing Orders (multiple jobs) by default, but can optionally appear in a sperate Template Tree in Manufacturing Order (job details).
  9. Canceled.  Canceled jobs will not be scheduled.  You can use this job state for jobs that may have started but were canceled for some reason.
  10. Standing Work Order.  Standing Work Orders are never scheduled and when updated in Job Updating, the job state and operation status cannot be changed.  Standing work order jobs can be setup for routine maintenance or other activities that do not require scheduling, but you want to record the time and activity in DMS.
